Debutant director Karthik Radhakrishnan, who worked as a co-director on Kathir , has made his feature film debut with An Order From The Sky (Aagasathin Utharavu), which, he claims, is “the world’s first one-character, one-shot feature, crafted as a single continuous take”.
Shot at a Kali kovil in Valacheripatti, Pudukkottai, the filmmaker says, “The film is adapted from a short story by writer Imayam, and the narrative unfolds within a rural shrine.”
Delving into the core of the story, he shares, “The film revolves around a destitute petty thief, played by theatre actor Baskar, who seeks authorisation from his clan deity to commit theft for survival. As he waits for a sign that may never come, his ritualistic pleas shift from reverence and desperation to anger and profanity, eventually becoming a personal confrontation with faith and moral contradiction.”
Reflecting on the challenges he faced while helming the film, the director notes, “Working within a limited budget and shooting with live sync sound was a challenge.”
